ESG Sustainability Survey 2025
The Sustainability (ESG) Survey conducted by RIT among Greek hotels aims to assess the hotel sector’s level of adoption of, and preparedness for, ESG principles (Environmental, Social and Governance). Through the collection of primary data, the survey records current practices, identifies the main challenges and highlights opportunities for further integrating sustainability into hotel operations.
The Environmental (E) section was developed in collaboration with the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH) and the Technical Chamber of Greece (TCG). It includes indicators and measurements aligned with the Green Star Rating framework for hotels. The survey covers issues relating to energy and water management, carbon footprint, solid and liquid waste management, and food waste management.
The Social (S) section examines, among other areas, procurement from local and Greek producers, initiatives to provide information to guests, the accessibility of hotel facilities and corporate social responsibility initiatives. The Governance (G) section assesses the extent to which ESG principles are incorporated into business management by recording relevant strategies, policies, compliance mechanisms, stakeholder consultation processes and certifications.

The detailed presentation of the findings of the Survey on Sustainability (ESG) in Greek Hotels provides a comprehensive numerical and graphical overview of all the variables examined, together with the survey’s key findings.
The results are analysed by Region, hotel category (star rating), property size (number of rooms), and operation (year-round or seasonal), providing a comprehensive picture of the hotel sector.
